I got my copy of this wonderful book yesterday, not even knowing it was out until I visited Brunswick Bound. I haven’t had a chance to read more than the first 10 pages yet, but it is fabulous so far.
I might have to get the US edition also, for this lovely cover:

Even lovelier in the flesh. And only $10 each!
Especially pleased that Jane Eyre doesn’t come with an introduction, just the novel. There’s a few more I want, and I’ll be interested to see what else they come out with…

Kirrily Schell’s artwork is delightfully both clear and muddy (in a good sense), and bursting with life. It illustrates the text in every sense of the word – bringing light, embellishing, clarifying and teaching.

Thanks Anthony!!!

I am currently re-reading Kim Newman’s excellent Anno Dracula, which has proved to be the antidote I needed to Richard K. Morgan’s Black Man. The Morgan was eminently readable, but my god… the long didactic dialogues about genetics and gender… you could have snipped ALL of them out to the benefit of the book. And a small note for Morgan: Hunter-Gather societies did not die out 20, 000 years ago. They still exist, and none of them have a common history of sociopathic supermen as their leaders.
